What Did Gojo Say to Geto? A Heartbreaking Farewell

The tale between Gojo and Geto is a tragic bromance unseen in anime for some time. It attempts to capture the essence of “what could’ve been”. In my opinion, Gege pulled it off remarkably well. It has been a year or so since the release of Jujutsu Kaisen 0. But for western fans, it’s only been months.

Despite a bittersweet ending, fans are left satisfied yet hungry for more. Particularly, fans wish to have this question answered: what did Gojo say to Geto? In this article, we will be exploring the answer.

What Relationship Do Gojo and Geto Have?

For anime audiences, their first exposure to these characters was in the main series. With a story that revolves mostly around Itadori Yuji, it is hard to know who Gojo and Geto are. At most, we know them as powerful figures. However, events during the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie revealed there was more than what meets the eye.

What Relationship Do Gojo and Geto Have?

Both characters were able to feel each other out throughout the movie. They possess a strong familiarity with each other’s Cursed Energy. Once Geto made his moves, Gojo was able to sense his residual energy. This level of understanding could only conclude that the two had a history. Geto’s line about Principal Yaga’s school only reinforced this idea. Geto had previously been a student of Yaga and a friend of Gojo. Their almost casual and snarky banter all but confirms the latter point.

Why Did Gojo and Geto Stop Being Friends?

These men stopped being friends due to the results of a mission failure. It wasn’t that they were upset they couldn’t complete the mission because of each other. It was more on what they got out of it. While Gojo was able to power up thanks to the experience, Geto was the opposite. The failure of the mission and the loss of life because of it had impacted him. He doubted his mission as a sorcerer. Over time, he grew a distaste for the people he was supposed to save.

Gojo’s absence only worsened the fact. His best friend was always gone on a mission. As a result, Geto was left alone with his thoughts. His ability to eat curses amplified what he felt. His eventual snap didn’t come all too surprising. He is labeled a criminal after causing a massacre. After their confrontation on the streets, that is when the two stopped being friends.

Why Did Gojo and Geto Stop Being Friends?

What Gojo Thinks of Geto

Throughout the movie, we see Gojo lament the fact his best friend had gone rogue. In multiple scenes, we see him alone with a melancholic score playing in the background. He was reminiscing about his times with Geto. It appeared that despite the latter’s heel turn, a portion of Gojo sought his return. This sentiment is further reinforced when he said he trusted Geto to not kill Okkotsu. This show of trust shows that he cared for his friend despite everything.

What Did Gojo Say to Geto Before Killing Him?

The inevitable death of Geto should come as no surprise. In the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, criminals slated for execution are taken seriously. Even then, Gojo had hesitated. Gojo had taken the time to converse with his best friend. He didn’t want things to end with regrets. This is when the fans are left with the most burning question in their minds. The audio of Gojo’s last words to Geto had been cut out. Even in the manga, there were only literal lines on his text bubble. All that we know of this throwaway line was that it had been a compliment.

Thankfully, we may have an answer. In an interview with Gege Akutami, he had been asked if he will ever reveal what Gojo said to Geto. He answered that Gojo’s words had already been revealed somewhere in Volume 10. There are only very few circumstances when Gojo talked about Geto. However, there can only be one line that may be his last words for Geto.

What were Gojo’s Last Words to Geto?

As Gojo spoke to Okkotsu, he talked about how he hadn’t been the one to find the latter’s ID Card. His best friend had been the one to find it. If we take Gege by his word, then a rendition of Gojo’s line in this scene is what he said to Geto. Gojo’s final words to Geto would have been: “You are my best friend. The one and only.”
