Gojo and Geto were in the same year together with Shoko during high school. But, Shoko had a rare talent for using the Reverse Cursed Technique so she was mostly excluded in a mission and primarily supported sorcerers from the backline through medical support such as healing injuries. This created an opportunity for both Gojo and Geto to form a bond and, over the years, the two grow to trust each other.
They knew each other’s strengths so well and covered the other’s weaknesses. They bickered around with each other from time to time but they undoubtedly entrusted their back to one another. They were both aware that each of them had the potential to be the strongest, thus earning each other’s respect. Gojo even learned some of his ideals from Geto himself. So, why and how did Gojo kill Geto?
Who is Geto?
Suguru Geto is the main antagonist in Jujutsu Kaisen’s prequel, Jujutsu Kaisen 0. During the Hidden Inventory Arc, Geto witnessed the cruelty of normal humans towards Jujutsu Sorcerers, who they risk their lives to protect. (Although normal humans are not aware of the existence of Jujutsu Sorcerer, they pin all the supernatural phenomena they experienced on Jujutsu Sorcerers.) The normal humans that they protect are the ones that persecute them.
Geto shared a meaningful conversation with Tsukumo Yuki, his fellow Special Grade Jujutsu Sorcerer. They realized that their mortal enemy, the Cursed Spirits, are born not just from negative emotions but also from the excess Cursed Energy seeping out from the normal humans who don’t know how to control it. Geto’s wavering conviction finally tipped towards “treating the cause” – which means eradicating all the non-sorcerers, resolving himself to kill all the normal humans he calls “monkeys”.
He started off by killing 112 inhabitants of XX Village who blamed all the deaths and disappearances that are happening in their village on the two innocent children who coincidentally are shamans.
Geto gained notoriety and was issued to be killed on the spot as a curse user. Gojo, as a Jujutsu Sorcerer and Geto’s best friend, felt the weight of the reason behind Geto’s decisions so he didn’t kill him and waited in hope that Geto will be back. But Geto’s actions went out of hand, so Gojo has no choice but to execute him. Geto’s objective – to make it so that no more Cursed Spirits will be born – is pure. But his means – executing all of the non-sorcerer – is evil, making him an enemy of Gojo Satoru.
Why Does Geto Become a Curse User?
Geto is the best friend and teammate of Gojo Satoru during their high school days. During the Hidden Inventory Arc, their team is assigned to a mission to escort the Star Plasma Vessel Riko Amanai and erase her (her identity and record to the human society). The Star Plasma Vessel is targeted by two organizations; Curse User Group Q and Star Religious Group. The escort mission is a success but in the end, Riko is assassinated by the anomaly Toji Fushiguro who was commissioned by the Star Religious Group. Geto witnessed the scene of the non-sorcerer member of Star Religious Group celebrating the death of innocent girl Riko.
Geto’s firm conviction of protecting the weak (non-sorcerer) started to waver. A year later, Geto had a meaningful talk with his fellow Special Grade Jujutsu Sorcerer, Tsukumo Yuki. He learned that most of the Cursed Spirits are born from the concentration of the leaked Cursed Energy from non-sorcerers. Sorcerers can control and empty their Cursed Energy through Jujutsu Techniques so they don’t exude Cursed Energy, unlike the non-sorcerers. The day after, one of his juniors died because the Cursed Spirit was stronger than the information given to them because it is worshipped by the local non-sorcerers.
After three years, he witnessed how two innocent sorcerer children were blamed and persecuted for the strange deaths and mysterious disappearance in their village. This serves as the final straw in the stack that made him abandon his former belief and started his objective to eradicate all the non-sorcerers.
How Did Gojo Kill Geto?
Geto is one of the Special Grade Cursed Sorcerers. He stands at the top of Jujutsu Sorcery and his strength is rivaled only by a few individuals. During the Night Parade of Hundred Spirits, Geto releases thousands of Cursed Spirits he collected in Shinjuku and Kyoto as a diversion. He went directly to Tokyo Jujutsu High to assassinate Yuta Okkotsu, a Special Grade Cursed Human, and get the Queen of Curses, Rika Orimoto from his possession.
Rika Orimoto is a Special Grade Vengeful Cursed Spirit that is said to be one of the strongest Cursed Spirits earning her the moniker of Queen of Curses. As a Cursed Spirit Manipulator, Geto has his eyes set on capturing Rika Orimoto but the latter is bound to Yuta. She is hell-bent on protecting and tending to Yuta Okkotsu whom she loved deeply when she was still alive so Geto plans to kill Yuta.
Realizing Geto’s intentions, Gojo sent Panda and Toge back to Tokyo Jujutsu High to help defend Yuta. They did stall enough time but ultimately ended up in defeat. Geto not only has hundreds of Cursed Spirit at his disposal, but he is also a master in hand-to-hand combat eliminating his only weakness as a Cursed Spirit Manipulator. Knowing that Rika is on his side, Yuta faced Geto with conviction but not once did he overwhelm Geto. After getting an upper hand, Geto suddenly summons a Special Grade Cursed Spirit and his ultimate Technique.
Seeing his helplessness after coming this far, he decided to give it all and made a binding vow with Rika Orimoto. The vow is to release the limit of Rika Orimoto in exchange for Yuta’s future, heart, body, and everything. He promises Rika that he will be with her forever if she lends her power one last time. Rika unlocked his ultimate form and fired a beam of pure energy for a final showdown. Geto ends up losing his right arm and all of the Cursed Spirits in his arsenal.
In his weakened state, he met Gojo Satoru. Realizing that it will be the end of his life, he just sat peacefully and exchanged words with his best friend Gojo. He confessed that he still hated “Monkeys” but he didn’t hate anyone from Jujutsu High. They shared a couple more conversations before Gojo ended his life.
