Why Gojo Wears Blindfold
When asked if Gojo Satoru can still see behind his blindfold, Gege Akutami, creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, says Gojo Satoru could still perfectly see and perceive his surroundings. Gojo possesses Six Eyes, an inherent ocular jujutsu to the Gojo Family. Anyone who possesses Six Eyes can see Cursed Energy in so much detail. Through the remnants and flow of Cursed Energy, he can also detect objects devoid of Cursed Energy such as buildings. This allows Gojo to perceive his surroundings even though blindfolded like high-resolution thermography.
But possessing such excellent ocular jujutsu comes with a physical toll on his body, especially on his brain. There is so much information that is transmitted to his brain from his eyes which consumes much more of his brain capacities, tiring him out easily in the process. Even though he is using an advanced form of cursed technique – which is the reverse cursed technique to continuously heal and aid his fatigued brain – it would still be better to just cover his eyes since he can still function normally as if he’s not.
So, Gojo Saturo wearing a blindfold or opaque sunglasses is his way of subduing his overpowered eyes to minimize the toll on his body for having such extraordinary eyes.

Who is Gojo Satoru?
Gojo is one of the most loved characters from Jujutsu Kaisen. He is one of the four special grade jujutsu sorcerers and is widely recognized as the strongest. He came from the Gojo Family, one of the three most powerful sorcerer families. He is the first person from the Gojo Family to inherit both Limitless and Six Eyes after four hundred years. He works as a teacher in Tokyo Jujutsu High School.
What Does Gojo Satoru Look Like?
He is a tall man with a lean build wearing a gakuran jacket, black slack and black shoes. He is characterized by his white hair and black blindfold which is tied to cover his eyes in a way that his hair is swayed upward. In some parts of the story, we can see him wearing a white bandage or opaque sunglasses to cover his eyes.
What is Gojo’s Personality?
He wears a carefree and playful attitude towards his students and friends but is outright rude towards the higher ups of the jujutsu sorcerer society following his blatant insult towards the principal of Kyoto Jujutsu High Tech, who is one of the higher ups of jujutsu sorcerer society and belongs to the conservative group.
He has good observation skills and incredibly sharp intuition. For instances he realizes that the thousand cursed spirits during the night parade are just a divergence by just observing the commander’s move and few clues. We can also witness his sharp intuition when he asked Yuji Itadori whether he (Itadori) has formed a pact with Sukuna or not.
Being the strongest jujutsu sorcerer, Gojo is overconfident in his abilities and invincibility. He always claims that he is the strongest in the world. (This is actually true, following how he toyed with special grade cursed spirit Jogo. He also claims that he can win against Sukuna with all of his twenty fingers.
Can Gojo Satoru Still See Even When Blindfolded?
Yes. Gojo Satoru can’t see physical objects when he is blindfolded but he can still see Cursed Energy and its flow. Gojo Satoru inherited the Six Eyes from his family. (Note though being from the Gojo Family doesn’t necessarily mean that they will unconditionally inherit the Six Eyes.)
The Six Eyes let him see and feel Cursed Energy in such fine detail. It also enhances his vision which makes him capable of seeing someone from an extreme distance, evident from when he saw the improvements in Itadori’s control over his Cursed Energy. He can see it so clearly as if he was just a few meters away when he was, in fact, floating in the air kilometers away.
More Evidence Showing Gojo See Through His Mask
Another evidence is when Gojo Satoru urged Itadori to consume another one of Sukuna’s finger to see what effect it would have on the vessel (Itadori). Alone with Itadori in a closed room at that particular scene, Gojo seemingly senses something, switches to his serious demeanor then leans his elbow against the door. He even holds his ground when Itadori, possessed by Sukuna, is trudging towards him.
At a glance, it seems like Gojo is just preparing himself for whatever effect swallowing the second finger would have on Itadori. But Gojo wouldn’t have a problem defending himself against Sukuna with one-tenth of his original strength. The reason behind this is because he perceives the Cursed Energy behind the door. This belongs to Megumi Fushiguro, who appears to be oblivious of what is happening inside the room. These show that his eyes can still see the cursed energy through the obstruction.
What is Six Eyes?
The Six Eyes is ocular jujutsu inherent to the Gojo Family. It allows the user to see Cursed Energy in so much detail. This includes minuscule detail down to an atomic level, which has great synergy with his Limitless jujutsu, greatly boosting his jujutsu techniques. Seeing everything in such great detail allows the user to observe different mechanisms behind a phenomenon, be it physical objects or the flow of Cursed Energy. This provides the user with an in-depth understanding of Cursed Energy and its manifestation.
Seeing cursed energy in so much detail through Six Eyes allows the user to efficiently wield his or her Cursed Energy effectively and efficiently. Using jujutsu techniques that would normally require a lot of Cursed Energy can be used with an extremely small amount of Cursed Energy, giving an advantage to the user in long-drawn battles. This allows Gojo Satoru, the current wielder of the Six Eyes, to spam extraordinary jujutsu techniques during battles.
Six Eyes not only allow the user to see cursed energy in extreme detail but also enhance his vision. The user of Six Eyes can still see the object clearly even when it is kilometers away, which we can see when Gojo assesses the situation after breaking the veil that forbids him from entering the competition venue in the Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc.
Why Does Gojo Satoru Sometimes Remove His Blindfold?
Gojo Satoru removes his blindfold when fighting against a strong opponent where he has to unleash his full capability. We first see Gojo Satoru as the blindfolded white-haired husbando. He didn’t seem to have difficulties with his eyes blindfolded since he moves like how normal humans move without their vision obscured. As the story progressed, we finally see what his eyes look like; vibrant bluish-black pupils and bluish-white iris along with his unrestrained strength.
The first time Gojo Satoru removes his blindfold is when he fought against the unregistered special grade class cursed spirit, Jogo. Gojo wasn’t particularly having a hard time fighting against Jogo but he removed his blindfold just so he could show Itadori the pinnacle jujutsu technique; Domain Expansion.
This just shows that uncovering his eyes is the requirement for him to activate his Domain Expansion. It makes sense since his innate technique, Limitless and Six Eyes, is the bases of his Domain Expansion. His domain expansion, Unlimited Void, traps the opponent in the endless void manifested through his Cursed Energy and lets the trapped opponent see and feel everything and nothing at the same time, making them incapable of fighting back.
When Does Gojo Show His Eyes?
During the Kyoto Goodwill Event Arc, Cursed spirits attack the venue to retrieve the fingers possessed by the jujutsu sorcerers. The assailants consist of multiple special grade cursed spirits skilled at escaping and hiding their presence. After breaking the barrier, Gojo can be seen floating in the air with his blindfold off. He removes his blindfold probably so he can analyze and find a way to quickly destroy the barrier. Furthermore, there were multiple special grade cursed spirits with a clear goal of wrecking havoc against the students, so he has to be in his best form to respond quickly as soon as he unveils the barrier.
In the Cursed Child Arc, Suguru Geto releases thousands of cursed spirits known as the Night Parade of Hundred Demons in Shibuya and Kyoto as a divergence from his original plan of killing Yuta. Gojo Satoru realizes the gravity of the situation (deal with the commander and kill as many cursed spirits as possible) so he decides to let loose from the start revealing his majestic eyes.
