Sakamoto Days: Retired Assassin Comedy

Sakamoto Days asks: what if John Wick retired, got fat, and ran a convenience store? Then assassins kept finding him anyway.

The Concept

Taro Sakamoto was the world’s deadliest assassin. He fell in love, retired, and gained weight. Now he runs a store with his family. When former colleagues and enemies arrive, he defeats them while maintaining pacifist vow—no killing, just creative violence.

Comedy Through Contrast

The humor comes from mismatch: the tubby shopkeeper effortlessly destroying elite killers. Sakamoto’s mundane concerns (store sales, family time) clash with assassin drama. He’s genuinely retired; everyone else can’t accept it.

Action Excellence

The fights are incredibly choreographed. Sakamoto uses anything—store items, environmental objects, creative martial arts—while never killing. These restrictions force creative solutions that make fights more interesting than simple combat.

Supporting Cast

Shin (telepathic former assassin) and Lu (child assassin) join Sakamoto’s family. The found family dynamic adds heart while expanding action possibilities.

Verdict

8/10 – Sakamoto Days is action-comedy perfection. The premise sustains through excellent choreography and genuine heart. If you want stylish fights wrapped in family comedy, this is your show.
