Yuta Okkotsu is first mentioned in Chapter 10 of the manga series (Episode 5 of the anime). However, everything about him was still mysterious until the author made Yuta another series named Jujutsu Kaisen 0.
Yuta is the main character of Jujutsu Kaisen 0, and this is why he becomes a jujutsu sorcerer; his backstory and power are also shown clearly in this series.
The series starts when Yuta must get into Tokyo Jujutsu High after cramming four men into a cabinet. And the first person to contact Yuta is Gojo. Gojo was already a teacher at that time, teaching a class that included Panda, Inumaki, and Maki.

But one day, Geto Suguru came to Tokyo Jujutsu High and announced his purpose. He would release 2000 cursed spirits in Tokyo and Kyoto.
When the day comes, all the jujutsu sorcerers increase their vigilance to prepare for everything that will happen.
Yuta Meets Geto Suguru
However, the only thing that Geto really wants is Rika – the cursed spirit of Yuta. So, he made this plan to split others from Yuta. When Yuta is alone, he will come and take Rika away with his cursed technique – Cursed Spirits Manipulation.
And Geto did what he planned.
They had a great fight. However, the winner was Yuta. The couple together uses beam energy to defeat Geto. Geto lost an arm because of this attack.

Yuta is a descendant of a person named Sugawara Michizane, and this person is related to Gojo’s clan.

The reason is that Michizane Sugawara of the Jujutsu Kaisen world is considerable. He is one of the Three Vengeful Spirits and a famous jujutsu sorcerer.
Despite that, this is the only information we have about Michizane of the Jujutsu Kaisen world. But if we dig a little deeper into the legend of Japan, we will know that Michizane is built from the same character as Japan’s mythology.
Who is Michizane Sugawara?
Sugawara Michizane is a scholar, poet, and excellent politician of Japan in the Heian age. A myth of him is after dying in 903, AC. says he turned over the grave to live once again and get revenge on all the people who backbite about him.
This made him become one of the three Onryou of Japan.
According to the conception of Japan, Sugawara Michizane might become a God of Thunder (or Raijin) after dying. He also has another name is Tenman-Tenjin (or Tenjin for short)
