Why Did Sukuna Heal Megumi?

In Episode 5 of the anime adaptation, Yuji let Sukuna take control of his body in order to overcome the crisis when they unexpectedly encounter a Finger Bearer – which is essentially a Special Grade Cursed Spirit. Sukuna took this chance and went on a rampage to his heart’s content.

He toyed with Megumi Fushiguro, who faced him with the intention of bringing back Yuji by dealing enough damage to Sukuna so that he (Sukuna) will have no choice but to heal his body, including Yuji’s heart. He attempted to chant his ultimate technique “furube yurayura” at expense of his life to take down Sukuna which the latter took interest in.

Later in the story, it was revealed that “furube yurayura” is a chant to summon the Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga in an exorcism ritual. Sukuna might have taken an interest in Mahoraga earlier in the story but following what happened after Megumi summons Mahoraga greatly implies that Sukuna is indeed interested in Megumi’s Cursed Technique. In short, it is not an act of mercy. As the story proceeds, we can see how Megumi becomes necessary to whatever Sukuna’s plan is.
