If Gojo is not the oldest character in Jujutsu Kaisen, who could it be? Does Gojo die when he gets old?
Technically, an anime character as a fictional character doesn’t have a real life age, but in their respective worlds, the concept of age does exist. The Jujutsu Kaisen World is set in the year 2018 in which the current arc in the manga, Sakurajima Arc, happens a few days after October 31, 2018, so we can safely assume it is within the first week of November.
How Old is Gojo?
Gojo Satoru was born on December 7, 1989 in the Gojo family. He looks like a guy in his 20’s but with the child-like attitude of a teenager. As of the current manga arc, he is currently 28 years old.
The age of Gojo is revealed by Gege Akutami and in the Jujutsu Kaisen Official Fanbook that was released on March 4, 2021. Some other characters in Jujutsu Kaisen are way older than Gojo, but they don’t have the power that Gojo possesses at this young age.
BUT here’s when the confusion starts: we saw when he brought Yuji Itadori into the curse chamber, Gojo said, “We haven’t seen someone like Itadori in a thousand years.” When Jujutsu Kaisen fans saw this scene, they were confused and started to question his canon age.

The only motive for Masamichi Yaga is to offer Gojo a teaching job because he finds out how strong Gojo has become. Gojo developed his own method of training students, and after a short while, he became everyone’s favorite teacher.
Gojo spends all his time in the Jujutsu Kaisen world, but he never shares his past life experiences with anyone. The only person who is a distant relative of Gojo Satoru is Okkotsu Yuta. He is the only one who knows a little about Gojo, like who he is and where he came from.
Is Gojo Immortal?
Satoru Gojo is the only person with the power to create their own universe, where no one can do anything. The power of Gojo is a God’s gift that he inherited since his birth. But many rumors suggest that Gojo is immortal and can’t die. There is no doubt that Gojo has the power of immortality or is even greater than no one in the Jujutsu Kaisen has.
But there could be a chance he is immortal. Gojo is mysterious, and we have seen many times that he tends to go bizarre in the middle of a battle. In Episode 1, when Gojo brings Itadori into the anti-curse room, he says, “We haven’t seen someone like Itadori in a thousand years who could survive after eating Sukuna’s finger.”
This scene left the fans of Gojo in doubts about the birth and personality of Gojo. Episode 1 is only supposed to show who the hero is and who has the power of the devil, but when Gojo says those words, everyone’s attention goes to him. The answer to the question is unclear because some fans say he is immortal and never ages. Some theories claim that Gojo uses the Reverse Curse technique to stop his aging. But in reality, Gojo is the most powerful being who doesn’t seem to meet his death soon because he has so much to do.
Gojo never talks about his death or losing the battle. He is always full of confidence that no one can beat him and that he is the strongest of the strongest in the whole world. Gojo doesn’t die due to age, which we learn when Geto holds a meeting with Jogo and Hanami in a restaurant. They plan to kill Gojo, but Geto says it’s impossible.

Cursed Spirits
There are many cursed spirits who are older than Gojo or any other character in Jujutsu Kaisen. Since a cursed spirit doesn’t have human flesh, it doesn’t matter how old it would be in human years.
One of the oldest cursed spirits in the world for thousands of years is Sukuna. He was once one of the strongest cursed users when he was alive. After his death, lament, fear, and hatred of people cursed him, giving birth to him as a cursed spirit. As a cursed spirit, his curses are so strong that his fingers, which hold a piece of his power, can’t be destroyed or driven away.
Cursed Spirits of Extraordinary Quality Jogo, Hanami, Dagon, and Mahito are also speculated to be some of the oldest cursed spirits. They are cursed spirits that came into being because people were afraid of volcanoes, deserted forests, the sea, or other people. Such negative emotions have been present since the dawn of humans, making it possible that they were born a long time ago and have been in hiding until recently when they worked together with Kenjaku as a team.
Jujutsu Sorcerers
One of the oldest known Jujutsu Sorcerers that is alive up to this date is Tengen. He is a Jujutsu Sorcerer who specializes in conjuring barriers. His shield protects the two main schools of Jujutsu sorcery in Japan. He once proclaimed the Foundation of the Jujutsu Sorcerers and ended up earning the faith of some people, who started worshipping him as a God.
Tengen has the power of immortality but not an eternal body. His soul wouldn’t die by natural death, but his body would slowly age and degrade. As a result, Tengen would require a suitable body to merge with, called the Star Plasma Vessel, every five hundred years. If he doesn’t, his body will age quickly and die, and his soul will slowly ascend to become a cursed spirit.
He fails to merge with a Star Plasma Vessel, so his body’s ageing proceeds. This results in him growing another pair of eyes. His awareness as an individual diminishes because the world is becoming him. This explains Tengen’s awareness of whatever’s happening outside, even though he’s been locking himself up inside his barriers this whole time.
Although there is no official statement of his age, we can date it back using the 500-year requirement for him to merge with another body. He had merged with the Star Plasma Vessel in the past, and he has to merge again in the Hidden Inventory Arc, so he is at least one thousand years old.
Another individual in the same age range as Sukuna and Tengen is Kenjaku. He is a curse, active for at least a thousand years. He has a wide variety of knowledge about curses and cursed techniques. He can possess and switch bodies by transplanting his brain to another body, giving him the ability to survive through time. When possessing a body, he can control the body’s inherent techniques even better than the original body. He possesses the body of Noritoshi Kamo and creates the cursed womb and cursed objects. But if we are talking about humans, Yoshinobu Gakuganji is one of the oldest characters in the Jujutsu Kaisen, at age 76. He is the principal of Jujutsu Kaisen High School and one of the most powerful sorcerers in Jujutsu society. He is also a mysterious character like Gojo, who has a modern type of Jujutsu technique.
Ironically, he is part of a group that wants to protect the original Jujutsu techniques from the new ones that are springing up, even though his own Jujutsu technique needs the power of a modern electric guitar to make the sound it makes as powerful as possible. The theory is that he once used an old-fashioned guitar, but he had to transition into the modern one as a response to a stronger Cursed Spirit.
