Dandadan combines supernatural horror, alien encounters, and teenage romance in the most chaotic anime package imaginable. It shouldn’t work. It absolutely does.
The Insane Premise
Momo believes in ghosts. Okarun believes in aliens. To prove each other wrong, they visit haunted spots and get abducted—by both spirits and extraterrestrials. Okarun loses his… equipment… to a ghost. They must retrieve it while fighting increasingly absurd supernatural threats.
Why It Works
Commitment to Chaos
Dandadan doesn’t hold back. Each chapter (and episode) escalates absurdity while maintaining internal logic. The supernatural rules make sense; the situations just get weirder.
Genuine Heart
Beneath the chaos, Momo and Okarun’s relationship develops sweetly. Their growing feelings are played straight even amid ridiculous circumstances. The comedy doesn’t undermine the romance.
Animation
Science SARU delivered animation matching the manga’s manic energy. Yokai designs are creatively horrifying. Action flows with the same dynamic panels-to-screen translation that made the manga famous.
Verdict
9/10 – Dandadan is pure fun elevated by craftsmanship. It’s inappropriate, ridiculous, and weirdly touching. If you can handle vulgar comedy mixed with genuine emotion, this is essential entertainment.
